I got the idea for this cartoon from a speech that president Obama was giving in San Francisco I believe. I’m not sure of the place but Nancy Pelosi was mentioned so I just make that assumption. Anyway, in the speech he talks about being handed a mess and working on cleaning it up and says for the people who are criticizing the way in which he is doing it to “Pick up a Mop and help out”. Somewhere else in some other news report either before or close after that clip on the speech about the Mop there was a news report of talk about a second stimulus plan for the economy in congress. I thought it was interesting that any talk of more stimulus would be happening now only because the first stimulus, or I guess it would really be the second stimulus if you consider the TARP to be stimulus, has not been fully spent yet. I wonder what the plan is for the rest of the first stimulus. Anyway, those two things kind of collided together in my head and this cartoon was a result of that collision. I came up with this cartoon after the subject of waffling came up in conversation after one of my previous cartoons. It came up that it was not Obama who waffles on some of these things it is the Teleprompters and so you have it, another cartoon is born. I also did some research on the term “waffling”. Why you ask……well it just seems like a strange word to attach to someone changing their mind back and forth….that’s all. What I mean is how does a tasty breakfast dish get sucked into what has become such a sometimes derogatory name plate? Anyway, I could find all kinds of reference on who was waffling on this or that but nothing really on how it first came to be used as an “I changed my mind” term. If anyone could enlighten me on that…..it would be cool. Enjoy and have a great day.
I got the idea for this cartoon while listening to all the media coverage of the U.N. stuff and Iran’s new but not so new facility that apparently has been known about for some time or at least the building of it has been known. Now that it is complete its news I guess. Let me see if I can follow the logic here. They are building a facility, we know they are, they know we know they are, they put a big message on the roof of it for all satellites to see and this is where they are developing a nuclear bomb……..O.K. if you say so. It just seems more likely that the development of bomb grade material would be someplace a little more secret. Who knows? Anyway with Ahmadinejad firing off or excuse me, “testing”, missle systems and the timing and all, this cartoon popped in to the front of my mind. Enjoy and have a great day!
